Why “more positive” is not automatically better
An angle can be visually balanced in one eye shape and look exaggerated in another. Brow height, lower-lid position, scleral show, expression and head pitch all matter. Research also shows that sagittal head tilt changes the apparent angularity of the eye area.[3]
A repeatable positive canthal tilt measurement
Begin with a photo in which the face is square to the camera, both eye corners are visible and the lens sits near eye height. Estimate the facial vertical axis from central features, then construct its perpendicular. For each eye, draw from the inner corner toward the outer corner. An upward line relative to face-horizontal is positive.
If the line is close to level, a strict positive-or-negative label is not very helpful. Small changes in landmark placement, expression or head pitch can move the value across zero. Omogle calculates both eyes separately so you can see when they disagree.

Positive tilt, eye shape and facial harmony
A positive corner angle is often included in online descriptions of an upturned eye shape, but shape includes curved boundaries as well as the corner line. Eye-opening height, upper-eyelid exposure, lower-lid contour, brow position and orbital depth all influence the visual result. Positive tilt alone neither guarantees nor rules out any community label.
Preference studies depend on the faces shown, the people rating them and the way the images were edited. An average preference in one study does not set a required angle for everyone. A larger positive angle is not automatically more attractive.

Why positive tilt can look different between photos
Head pitch changes how the eye region projects into the image. A high or low camera can also change the relative visibility of eyelids and corners. Makeup or filters may lift the outer boundary, while a squint narrows and rotates the visible opening. These effects can create a convincing before-and-after without anatomical change.
For a steadier comparison, use the same camera, distance, lens, light and neutral expression. Check the central facial axis in each image rather than aligning the files by their rectangular edges. If the result changes only under different posing, describe it as presentation change rather than proof that the orbit remodeled.
Common positive-tilt measurement errors
A raised outer eyelash, winged liner or upward shadow can be mistaken for the eye corner. Rolling the head toward one shoulder can make both eye lines rise relative to the image. Smiling or squinting also changes the lid boundaries and may hide the actual corners.
Use unfiltered, evenly lit input and compare the eye line with a face-relative horizontal. Keep separate left and right calculations and note when one landmark is uncertain. A small positive result should be reported with the same restraint as a small negative one; precision in the display cannot exceed precision in the source image or landmark placement.
If you are checking a change over time, save the original uncropped images. Social apps may resize, sharpen or mirror a photo, and those edits can make a later comparison less reliable even when the face itself has not changed.
